Indigestion or dyspepsia or an upset stomach is the sensation of discomfort in the upper abdomen. Everyone’s physical perception of indigestion may vary, but most symptoms are treated through medications, lifestyle changes, or traditional Eastern medicine. But how do you prevent it?
In our acupuncture clinic in Fullerton, Orange County, HealingGate Acupuncture & Wellness Center utilizes holistic approaches to treat indigestion. Meanwhile, to prevent such, here are some tips:
- Eat in Small Portions
Doing so allows the stomach to function properly and not to work as hard. Also, be sure to eat slowly. - Pay Attention to Certain Foods
Avoid these foods as they are linked to indigestion:- Caffeine
- High in acids (e.g., citrus fruits)
- Alcohol
- After Meals
Avoid lying down after meals and physical exercises at least one hour after eating. - Sleep Well
After your last meal, give yourself at least three hours before getting to bed. When about to sleep, elevate your head for at least six inches above feet level; this helps the digestive fluids to flow directly to the intestines.
